About Us

Welcome to House of Rainbow, we are a faith-based community that celebrates the diversity of all God's people.

Founded on the vision of inclusion, we are a safe and affirming space for Black, African, Caribbean, and other ethnic minority LGBTIQ+ individuals, as well as their allies. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a home where faith, love, and justice meet. We work to break down the barriers of stigma, shame, and discrimination, while lifting up voices that have too often been silenced.

Rooted in Christian traditions and enriched by African culture, we affirm that every person is wonderfully made and deeply loved. Through worship, advocacy, support, and education, House of Rainbow nurtures spiritual growth, fosters community, and champions human rights for all. Whether you are seeking spiritual refuge, companionship, or a movement of justice and hope—you belong here. Together, we are building a rainbow house where love truly has no boundaries.

Our story

House of Rainbow began as a safe haven for LGBTIQ+ people of faith facing hostility and discrimination. Founded in 2006 by Reverend Jide Macaulay, House of Rainbow started as a weekly gathering for LGBTIQ+ Christians in Lagos. The media soon dubbed it "Nigeria's First Gay Church."

Despite facing intimidation and death threats, the urgent need for such a space became even more clear. Jide eventually returned to the UK, where he transformed House of Rainbow into a global organisation based in London, delivering projects worldwide.

Today, House of Rainbow supports sister organisations in 22 countries across Africa and the Caribbean and stands as a leading global advocate for LGBTIQ+ people of faith. It has also pioneered vital dialogues between LGBTIQ+ individuals and religious leaders, working to break down barriers and foster greater understanding.

What we do

At House of Rainbow, we sum up what we do, our mission, vision, and commitments, in five core pillars that guide and inspire our work.

Faith & Inclusion Transformation

Faith & Inclusion Transformation fosters belonging by expanding inclusive Christian fellowships, equipping faith leaders through training, and hosting annual conferences that celebrate diversity. It inspires dialogue, deepens understanding, and nurtures safe spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalised communities encounter God’s love without fear, building bridges of reconciliation and hope.

Protection, Support & Empowerment

Protection, Support & Empowerment ensures people seeking asylum and trafficking survivors receive safety, legal guidance, and pastoral care. It fosters emotional healing, community integration, and empowerment through advocacy, resources, and skills development—helping them rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience, and confidence while navigating complex legal and social systems.

Health, Wellbeing & Stigma Reduction

Health, Wellbeing & Stigma Reduction empowers Black gay, bisexual, and trans people living with HIV through peer-led support groups, education, and safe spaces. It challenges stigma with campaigns promoting acceptance, encourages regular healthcare engagement, and builds resilience by prioritising mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing for thriving, stigma-free communities.

Capacity Building & Leadership Development

Capacity Building & Leadership Development equips activists, faith leaders, and community organisers with knowledge, skills, and confidence to create lasting change. Through training, mentorship, and resources, they strengthen advocacy, inspire others, and mobilise communities, promoting justice, inclusion, and sustainable impact in addressing social, spiritual, and systemic challenges.

Global Mission & Advocacy Impact

Global Mission & Advocacy Impact focuses on connecting local struggles to global platforms, ensuring marginalised voices are heard. It drives systemic change through international forums, partnerships, and campaigns, influencing policies, shaping narratives, and promoting justice, equality, and inclusion for vulnerable communities worldwide.
